Community Education & Advocacy

Let your voice be heard! One of Island Green Living’s most vital endeavors is building awareness and educating others about the critical environmental issues facing our community. From advocating for the toxic cleanup at Caneel Bay, educating government leaders and the community on the importance of banning plastic bags and straws, to blocking the “Toxic 3 Os,” of sunscreen – Island Green Living is a leader in initiating meaningful change throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands while underscoring the mantra “Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”,
Island Green Living feels strongly that educating children and igniting the passions of the next generation of green ambassadors is essential. Thus we support incorporating green education K-12, including instruction on sustainable agriculture.
Below is a partial list of Island Green Living’s advocacy/educational work:
  • Community Events such as “Green Thursdays”
  • Agricultural Plan Task Force/Food Security
  • Comprehensive Energy Plan Steering Committee/Clean Energy
  • Ban of Sunscreen containing “Toxic 3 Os”
  • Ban of Plastic Bags & Straws
  • “Ban the Burn” of Vegetative Debris, contributing to the USVI’s standing as one of only three regions meeting WHO’s air quality standards
  • Green Construction & Sustainable Deconstruction
  • Caneel Bay Sustainable Redevelopment Advocacy
