Waste is produced, but where does it go? The Virgin Islands landfills are set to close imminently, so Island Green is spearheading efforts to recycle and compost to keep materials out of our landfills!

Baler for Plastics & Aluminum
St John has an aluminum can crusher! Our volunteers have been busy sorting, crushing and baling aluminum beverage cans at the ReSource Depot on Gifft Hill Rd. With their help, we were able to sell our first shipment of over 400,000 cans for recycling in March 2019!
PLEASE RECYCLE CLEAN ALUMINUM CANS ONLY. Cans with cigarette butts or trash inside cannot be recycled and create more work for our can crushing volunteers. Deposit your clean aluminum cans in the designated recycle bins.
Did you know??
Aluminium can be recycled indefinitely
Every three months, Americans throw enough aluminium in the landfills to build our nation’s entire commercial air fleet or the equivalent of 7 billion dollars
The average person has the opportunity to recycle more than 25,000 cans in a lifetime
Recycling a single aluminium can saves enough energy to power a TV for three hours
It requires 95% less energy and water to recycle a can than it does to create a can from virgin materials
